Early Marriage, Legal Approach, Socio-Economy ApproachAbstract
The socialization of early marriage in Sidorejo Village, Purwoharjo Sub-district, Banyuwangi, conducted by the service team, aimed to provide broader insights to the community, particularly parents and teenagers, so that they can improve the quality of education and awareness in legal, socio-economic, and cultural aspects regarding the negative impacts of early marriage. This mentoring activity was carried out at MTSN 7 Banyuwangi with 50 ninth-grade students. The method used in this program was PAR (Participatory Action Research), as it suited the local context, where in Sidorejo Village there are already 10 young couples who married early, and some of them do not even possess official marriage documents. The initial data on early marriage were obtained through observation and interviews with the village officials of Sidorejo, and later cross-checked with the Purwoharjo Office of Religious Affairs (KUA). The findings revealed that early marriage originated from the local tradition or custom that if a girl is not married soon, she will be considered an old maid. In addition, the low level of education among these young couples and economic factors became the main reasons parents forced their children to marry. Thus, it can be concluded that public awareness of the law regarding early marriage is still very low, which has led to the high number of young couples who have married early in this village
